Nickel 200 (UNS N02200) and 201 (UNS N02201) are forged nickel materials with dual certification. The difference between them is only the maximum carbon content, which is 0.15% for nickel 200 and 0.02% for nickel 201.
Nickel 200 nickel alloy seamless pipe is usually limited to use at temperatures below 600ºF (315ºC), because, at higher temperatures, it can suffer graphitization, which severely affects performance. At higher temperatures, nickel 201 seamless pipe should be used. Both of these grades are approved in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Chapter 8, Section 1. Nickel 200 seamless pipe is approved for 600ºF (315ºC) service, while nickel 201 seamless pipe is approved for up to 1250ºF (677ºC).
These two grades have excellent corrosion resistance to caustic soda and other alkaline substances. These alloys perform in reducing environments, but can also be used under oxidizing conditions that produce passive oxide films. They can resist the corrosion of distilled water, natural water, and flowing seawater, but they will be attacked by stagnant seawater.
Nickel 200 and 201 are ferromagnetic and exhibit highly ductile mechanical properties over a wide temperature range.

Corrosion Resistance
Nickel 200 and 201 have good corrosion resistance in many corrosive environments, including hydrofluoric acid and alkali. These alloys perform very well under reducing conditions, but due to the formation of a passive oxide film, they can also be used under oxidizing conditions. The excellent resistance of nickel 200 and 201 seamless tubes in caustic alkali is based on this type of protection.
At temperatures exceeding 600ºF (315ºC), nickel 201 seamless tube is the material of choice because of its low carbon content.
The resistance of nickel 200 and 201 in mineral acid applications depends on the concentration and temperature, and whether the solution is aerated. These alloys perform better in non-aerated acid solutions.
Nickel 200 and 201 perform well in acid, alkali, and neutral salt solutions. However, in oxidizing salt solutions, strong corrosion occurs.
Both alloys can resist dry gas at room temperature. Nickel 201 seamless tube can be used in hydrogen chloride and dry chlorine below 1022ºF (550ºC).
