ASTM A312 904L /UNS N08904 SEAMLESS PIPES

Applications:

Chemical Processing Plants: Used in equipment and piping systems handling strong acids like sulfuric, phosphoric, and hydrochloric acids, 904L seamless pipes are preferred for their superior resistance to both corrosion and pitting.

Oil and Gas Industry: These pipes are used in refining, offshore drilling, and subsea applications, particularly where chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking and seawater exposure are concerns.

Petrochemical Industry: Employed in heat exchangers, reactors, and other high-temperature process equipment exposed to organic and inorganic acids, 904L pipes offer resistance to cracking and crevice corrosion in aggressive environments.

Pharmaceutical Industry: 904L pipes are used in sanitary piping systems for pharmaceuticals where contamination control is critical, and high corrosion resistance ensures the purity of products.

Description

Product material

Alloy 904L (UNS N08904) is a super austenitic stainless steel that is designed for moderate to high corrosion resistance in a wide range of process environments. The combination of high chromium and nickel content, coupled with additions of molybdenum and copper, assures good to excellent corrosion resistance.

With its highly alloyed chemistry — 25% nickel and 4.5% molybdenum, 904L provides good chloride stress corrosion cracking resistance, pitting and general corrosion resistance superior to 316L and 317L molybdenum enhanced stainless steels.

Alloy 904L was originally developed to withstand environments containing dilute sulfuric acid. It also offers good resistance to other inorganic acids such as hot phosphoric acid as well as most organic acids.

Alloy 904L is easily welded and processed by standard shop fabrication practices.
